Beating the Rummikub Withdrawals

While in Vietnam, traveling with the Sharples in Halong Bay, we were introduced to one of their favorite pastimes, Rummikub.  This is a game like Rummy, where you make runs and sets of numbers and try to get rid of all your tiles.  It is one of those games with just the right amounts of luck and strategy to make it highly addictive.  We played it quite a bit on the Halong Bay boat cruise, and after we left Vietnam, I searched for it in stores in Singapore and Australia with no luck.   I tried to get through the withdrawals, but I was consumed with the idea of getting this game for us!

The tiles are a little flimsy; not exactly something we could do outdoors in a breeze, but it sure travels light!

Six pages of color copies. Lots of cutting and folding but totally worth it!

What do we do these days when you can’t find something you are looking for?  Go online, of course!  I figured someone must have figured out how to create a home-made version of this game, and I was right.  I went to the Manly Public Library one day and had the templates printed out, and then went home and assembled our very own Rummikub game with a bit of cutting, folding and taping!
